Allwinner vs Amlogic: Which Chipset Is Better in 2025?
Confused between Allwinner and Amlogic chipsets in Android TV boxes? Discover the key differences, real-world performance, OTT support, and why Amlogic is the better choice in 2025

What Is a Chipset in an Android TV Box?

The chipset (SoC – System on Chip) is the brain of your Smart TV or Android TV box. It determines how fast your device runs, whether it supports 4K or Dolby Vision, and how smoothly OTT apps like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and YouTube perform.

Allwinner vs Amlogic –

Here I am not doing any comparison, just telling my experience after using Allwinners H313, H616, H618, and Amlogic S905Y4, S905W, it this information according to my personal experience.

Why Amlogic is the Better Choice? –

  • Superior Performance – Fast app loading, Smooth 4K/8K playback, and Better multitasking with Android TV.
  • OTT App Support – Amlogic-based boxes often support Google Widevine L1 DRM, HDCP 2.2, Netflix/Prime Video/Hotstar in Full HD or 4K This makes them ideal for streaming lovers, which most of the time is missing in allwinners boxes.
  • Advanced Audio/Video Support – Amlogic chipsets include Dolby Atmos, DTS-HD, HDR10+, AV1 codec, Dolby Vision (on premium models or offered by brand or manufacturers). These features ensure a cinema-like experience at home. I have seen some Dolby features on H618 boxes, but not available in H313 and H616. Maybe some other brands or manufacturers implemented that.

So Amlogic chipsets work very well with AOSP (Android Open Source Project) for TV boxes and smart TVs, and if you’re buying a smart TV or TV box, you must check which chipset it has. Currently Indian market is overcrowded with these devices, with Allwinners’ old Socs with old and used RAMs built in, because many vendors prioritize profit over performance, flooding the market with outdated boards, so there is no performance. That’s why you can get 32 32-inch smart TV at Rs.5000 only, later you will find no performance.

So if you want to enjoy OTTs’ premium sound and quality, then you must go with Amlogic with S905X series or S905X5M or more. But if you’re looking budget device only for casting, YouTube, then you can go with Allwinners H618, not below.
