DD Dogri TV may be launched by the Doordarshan

DD Dogri TV is a proposed television channel that caters to the Dogri language spoken in the Indian states of Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and Himachal Pradesh.

DD Dogri TV may be launched by the Doordarshan
A PIL was filed in the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, seeking the launch of a 24-hour Dogri language Doordarshan (DD) channel.

There is no dedicated 24/7 channel in Dogri currently, but the regional subsidiary television station of Doordarshan, DD Kashir, provides programming in Dogri language, which also includes a news bulletin called “Dogri Samachar”.

The concept of a dedicated Dogri channel has been proposed and is under consideration by the authorities.

In fact, public interest litigation (PIL) had been filed in the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh asking for the establishment of 24×7 Dogri language TV channel. Court has issued a notice pertaining to the PIL and directed an amicus curiae to assist in the said case.

If established, the purpose of DD Dogri TV channel will be to promote Dogri language and culture and provide a platform for the Dogri-speaking communities to access information, entertainment, and educational content in their native language.
